Woodrow Blackwell

Woodrow Blackwell, 89, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 5, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Woodrow was born on June 5, 1936, in Landrum, South Carolina, a son of the late Oscar Blackwell and Millie Lockhart Blackwell. Woodrow was blessed with sixty-nine wonderful years of marriage to his late wife, Joan Blackwell. Woodrow lived a life filled with love, faith, and devotion to his family. He was an avid golfer and very proud of his career with Firestone Steel. When he retired, he and Joan loved to travel. He had a deep love for his horses and his pet cat, Joy. Woodrow's greatest blessing was the large and loving family he nurtured. Woodrow leaves behind a Godly heritage that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Woodrow is survived by his son, Daniel Blackwell and his wife, Mitzi, of Boiling Springs, SC; daughter, Sandra Nelson and her husband, Brad, of Inman; grandchildren, Beau Blackwell and his wife, Jessica, of Travelers Rest, Blair Glover and her husband, Brandon of New Prospect, SC, Brittany Hyder and her husband, Tim, of Winston Salem, NC and step-grandson Tyler Nelson and his wife Brittany, of Travelers Rest. Woodrow was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Orin Blackwell, Willow Blackwell, Gus Blackwell, Silas Blackwell, Bryson Glover, Brodie Glover, Brynn Glover, Bree Glover, Savannah Nelson, and Abby Nelson. He is also survived by brother; Argene Blackwell and his wife, Linda; sisters, Hazel Pace and Helen Johnson, Dorothy Painter and her husband, Roy; sister-in-law, Amy Blackwell.  Woodrow was predeceased by a granddaughter, Melina Ashlee Blackwell; son-in-law, Brett McKee; brothers, J.D. Blackwell and his wife, Macie, Marshall Blackwell and Melvin Blackwell and his wife, Bessie; brothers-in-law, Ralph Pace and Wayne Johnson.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Good Shepherd Memorial Park, Boiling Springs, South Carolina, with Pastor Clayton Houchins officiating.
