William "Bill" Joe Plummer

Mr. William "Bill" Joe Plummer, age 78, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.

Mr. Plummer was born April 26, 1946, in Rowan County, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Willie Veigh Plummer and William Matthew Plummer. Bill served the Boiling Springs community with over 45 years in the fire department, 27 of which, he served as the Fire Chief. In addition to his fire service, he retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad as a Carman that  inspected and repaired railcars.  Mr. Plummer was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Inman Mills Baptist Church. Bill was an umpire for the ASA and USSSA leagues. He was also a high school and collegiate umpire for baseball, softball, basketball, and volleyball.  He was hand selected to officiate the Lady Gamecock Invitational each year, for many years. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, Nascar racing, cutting grass, and anything outdoors. He was a dedicated husband to his wife of fifty-nine years, Judy Poteat Plummer.  They would have celebrated sixty years in December.

Left to cherish his memory, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Tim Plummer and wife, Rita; Keith Plummer and wife, Andrea; grandchildren, Matthew Plummer and Katelyn Plummer Morgan and husband, Tyler; great-grandchildren, Langston and Lawson "Tate" Morgan; sister, Norma Livengood; brother-in-law, Robert "Bob" Nicholls; a niece, and three nephews; and their beloved dachshund, Stoney. Mr. Plummer was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Barbara Nicholls.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 25, 2024, in the Chapel of Eggers Funeral Home in Boiling Springs, conducted by the Rev. Kenny Moore, the Rev. Jack Hames, and Chaplain John Turner. Interment will follow at Boiling Springs First Baptist Church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ted Nicholls, Bobby Livengood, Tim Holloway, Wayne Miller, Geno Bradley, Howard Giles, Harold Brady, and Bobby Turner.  Members of the Boiling Springs Fire Department will serve as the honorary escort.

The family will receive friends at Eggers Funeral Home of Boiling Springs from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday, October 24, 2024.
