William Roger "Papa" Bush

Sep 17, 1946 — Oct 24, 2026

Boiling Springs, SC

After a life well-lived, William Roger Bush entered in to eternal peace on October 24, 2026.

Roger was born in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, on September 17, 1946. He was married to the love of his life and best friend, Diane Bush of Spartanburg, South Carolina, for forty-two years. Roger was a mechanic by trade, and before marrying his precious Diane and relocating to Spartanburg, he owned and operated several service stations. Upon his move to Spartanburg in 1984, he worked for Bob’s Car Wash on East Main Street for thirty years.

Roger loved to be outside among nature. Whether he was building or gardening, the outdoors was his happy place. Roger was a jack-of-all-trades as well and could repair just about anything. He also enjoyed spending time with his wife, his children, and his grandchildren. He relished the achievements of them all. Roger was a member of First Baptist North Spartanburg.

Roger leaves behind his wife of forty-two years, Diane Bush of Boiling Springs, SC; his daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Eddie McMakin, and their daughter, Madelin McMakin, all of Boiling Springs, SC; his son, Tommy Carroll and his wife, Suzanne, and their two sons, Jake and Easton Carroll, all of Boiling Springs, SC; his son, Scott Bush of Sherrills Ford, North Carolina, and his children, Todd, Brandy, and Brandon, along with their children; and his sister, Cindy Woodward of Kings Mountain, North Carolina, and many dear nieces and nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by his mother, Ethel Carroll Bush and his father, William “Bill” Bush, of Kings Mountain, North Carolina; his sisters, Sherry Blanton and Kathy Bush, both of North Carolina; and his brothers, Kenny Bush of North Carolina, Earl Bush of Florida, and Texter Bush of North Carolina.

He also leaves behind his best friend and next-door neighbor of many years, Jimmy Horton, who was like a brother to Roger and proved to be an essential part of Roger and Diane’s lives, especially during Roger’s final years. Thank you is simply not enough, Jimmy.
