Wilburn Lester "Butch" Cannon

Mr. Wilburn Lester “Butch” Cannon, 80, passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Born on June 5, 1946, in Spartanburg County, he was a son of the late James Lester Cannon and Margaret Louella Hayes Cannon. Butch proudly served his country in the United States Army as a combat engineer during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Piedmont Baptist Church.

Butch was a retired carpenter who took great pride in his work. His love for woodworking extended well beyond his career, as he especially enjoyed building furniture for his family. An outdoorsman at heart, Butch loved fishing and hunting, especially coon hunting. When he wasn’t enjoying the outdoors or spending time with his family, he could often be found in his shop. Whether working on a project or simply “piddling,” his shop was one of his favorite places to be.

Surviving are a grandson, Jacob Cooke, and a great-grandson, Cayde Cooke, both of Spartanburg; a sister, Gayle Cannon Mills of Chesnee; four nephews, Gerald Mills, Michael “Bo” Mills, David Henson and his wife Kristen, and Jimmy Henson and his wife Atsuko; a niece, Rhonda Hutchins and her husband Terry of Chesnee; a special great-niece, Sara Williams and her husband Blake; and several other nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Butch was predeceased by a sister, Peggy Cannon Henson; and a brother-in-law, Bobby Mills.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at Springhill Memorial Gardens in Chesnee. The family will receive friends following the graveside service.

For those wishing to pay their respects and say a final goodbye to Butch, he will lie in repose at Eggers Funeral Home of Chesnee on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, from 9:30 AM until 4:30 PM.
