Thomas "Tommy" Earl Sherbert

Thomas Earl Sherbert, "Tommy", of Boiling Springs, age 67, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends on January 21, 2023 after a 2 year battle with ALS.

Tommy is survived by his wife, Kathy Fleming Sherbert; son, Jonathan Sherbert and daughter-in-law, Amanda Sherbert; daughter, Diana Holder, son-in-law, Joseph Holder; his five precious granddaughters, Mae (6), Lilly (5), and Josie Holder (3); and Maddie (4), and Audrey (2) Sherbert.

He was the son of the late James (Buck) Earl Sherbert and Lena Chumley of Woodruff, SC.

Tommy attended Woodruff High School where he was named athlete of the year his senior year. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina Upstate, and Southeastern Seminary.

Tommy served 17 years in vocational ministry, including the roles of  Associate Pastor of Beaumont Baptist Spartanburg; Youth and Family Minister South Main Baptist, Greenwood, Camp Director, Oak Hill Christian Camping and Retreat Center Raleigh, NC; and Children's Minister, First North Spartanburg. He enjoyed a second career for the last 20 years as the Founder of Upstate Technology Services.

Outside of work, he was active and enjoyed fishing, snow skiing, scuba diving, and skydiving, but his favorite sport was golf which he enjoyed with many friends over the years.

Tommy loved the Lord and was an active member at Newspring Church Spartanburg.

He never met a stranger, and his outgoing personality made him a favorite everywhere he went. His kind heart and love of serving others made him dear to all who knew him.

Tommy was married to his college sweetheart, Kathy, for over 41 years. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, but nothing brought him more joy in recent years than his role of Poppy to his five young granddaughters.

He was greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held at Eggers Funeral Home in Boiling Springs on Thursday, January 26, at 1:00pm, followed by a funeral service at 2:00pm. A brief graveside service will follow at 3:00 pm at Good Shepherd Memorial Park in Boiling Springs.
