Teresa Whisnant Wood

Teresa Whisnant Wood, age 73 of Ellenboro, NC, entered her heavenly home on October 12, 2025. She was born August 17, 1952 in Rutherford County, NC to the late Reverend Perry Elijah Whisnant and the late Hilda Hamrick Whisnant. Teresa was a retired school teacher from Rutherford County Schools. She was the former first female mayor of Ellenboro, NC and her greatest accomplishment while in office was starting the Ellenboro Christmas Parade. Teresa was also a therapeutic foster parent for the Willie M program where she helped change the lives of many children.

Those left to cherish her legacy and memories are her daughter, Shellica Wood Romney, her brother Perry Lee Whisnant, niece Samantha Leia Whisnant, granddaughters Sabrina Hardin (Chris) and Nessa Romney, grandson Logan Romney, great granddaughter Maylyn Vondilla Lovelace.

In addition to her parents, Teresa was preceded in death by a baby brother, sister Bonita Williams and brother in law Bruce Williams.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 16, 2025 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Eggers Funeral Home of Cliffside, NC. The funeral service will be at 3:00pm on Friday, October 17, 2025 at Bethel Baptist Church in Ellenboro, NC with Reverend Stephen Bright officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Eggers Funeral Home of Cliffside, NC is serving the family.
