Russell Edward Layton, Jr.

Russell Edward Layton, Jr., age 48, of Boiling Springs, South Carolina, unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at Spartanburg Medical Center.

Russell was born on January 18, 1977, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, the son of the late Toni Bailey Layton and Russell Edward Layton, Sr. He attended Boiling Springs High School, Class of 1995. He worked as a Technician for J&J Forklift Maintenance. Whether in the woods hunting, at the racetrack, fishing his favorite spot, or nuturing his plants, he poured his heart into the things he loved, including the many years of accomplished go-cart racing. He is leaving those who knew him with memories of a life lived fully, with joy and adventure. Russell will be remembered for his positive attitude and sense of humor. His favorite titles were Dad and PePaw.

Left to cherish his memory are two sons, Julian Rain Layton and Cody Lee Atkins; his future wifey, Nicole Neeley (Cole, Neeley, Joseph); grandson Hayden; a sister Sharon; nieces, Tiffany Bradburn Jackson and Tabitha; and a nephew, Nickholaus Lewis.  In addition to his parents, Russell was predeceased by a sister, Lisa McKinney.

Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Eggers Funeral Home of Boiling Springs at 5:00 PM on Monday, August 18, 2025, with Chaplain Matthew Scruggs officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service until 8:00 PM.
