Roger Dean Owensby

Roger Dean Owensby, 72, of Pacolet, South Carolina, passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Born April 22, 1954, in Spartanburg, he was a son of the late David Fate Owensby and Gladys Odell Manis Owensby.

Roger worked for over twenty-five years in the chemical manufacturing industry. An avid race car driver, he took great pride in his racing career and the races he won. Some of his fondest memories were made watching his children and grandchildren pursue their own interests in racing and watching his granddaughter play softball. Above all, Roger was proud to be a father and grandfather. He will be remembered as a wonderful Daddy and Papa who loved his family, working on cars, and racing. Roger also shared a special bond with his dog, Lady, who was his constant companion and went everywhere with him.

Surviving are daughter, Brandi N. Cox; son, Michael S. Owensby; grandchildren, Ashton N. Crowe, Kylie E. Dockery, Grayson Owensby, and Riley Owensby; sister, Shirley Smith; and brothers, Danny Owensby and Jimmy Owensby. In addition to his parents, Roger was predeceased by two brothers, Dennis “Hank” Owensby and Doug Owensby.

A receiving of friends and family will be held Friday, September 11, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Eggers Funeral Home of Chesnee.
