Robert Benjamin Ray

Robert Benjamin "Benny" Ray, age 80, of Boiling Springs, South Carolina, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2026, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Born September 21, 1945, in Cowpens, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Robert Carl Ray and Myrtle Maynor Ray.

Benny was a member of Boiling Springs First Baptist Church. He was a Mason and a member of Cherokee Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed building and flying ultralight and model airplanes and especially loved target practicing with his friends. Around the neighborhood, Benny was affectionately known as "Mr. Fix-It" because he was always willing to lend a helping hand.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Bessie Emory Ray; two sisters, Norma Jean Ruppe, and husband, Jack of Cowpens and, Jeannette Rivers of Anderson; and sisters-in-law Shirley Alverson, and husband, Richard, and Jerleen Emory along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Sue Lawrence, Aileen Lawing, and Sara Joe Githins.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Good Shepherd Memorial Park with Rev. Ronnie Cox officiating.
