Robert Hanly Morrell, Ii

Robert "Bob" Hanly Morrell II, 74, of Inman, South Carolina, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Hospice of the Carolinas Foothills.
Born December 6, 1951, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Bob was a son of the late Kathleen Hook Morrell and Robert Hanly Morrell.  For 24 years, he proudly served his country in the United States Air National Guard and pursued film studies at Columbia Film School in Hollywood, reflecting his lifelong passion for storytelling and the arts. Bob was a faithful member of St. Margaret's Episcopal Church.

Bob dedicated more than 20 years of service to South Carolina ETV, where he worked on numerous broadcast and non-broadcast programs and projects. He served as Producer/Director of the popular "Impressions" artist profile program that highlighted local artists in the upstate and statewide area. As a videographer, he helped shoot and produce the popular "Ghosts and Legends of South Carolina" series. He also produced a popular surfing documentary "Beach Break," and directed numerous television programs, as well as assisting in various capacities on other projects. Bob was employed with ETV from November 16, 1987, until February 1, 2012.

In addition to his broadcast career, Bob was an adjunct professor at USC Upstate, teaching Motion Picture and Video Techniques and Advanced Video Production. He was instrumental in teaching and mentoring hundreds of students and interns pursuing careers in video and television production.
A lifelong movie enthusiast, Bob was a member of the USC Student Union's Cinematic Arts Committee and helped promote the Brian De Palma Film Festival in 1975. He was also a lover of music, especially the Beach Boys, an avid University of South Carolina Gamecock fan, and enjoyed surfing.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife and companion of 18 years, Nancy Moss Morrell; daughters, Eden Morrell (Glen) and Rebecca Morrell Hopper (Devon); grandchildren, Kit, Hendrix, and Winnie; sister, Toni Muller; brother, Mark Morrell; stepdaughter, Erin Callicott (Andy); stepsons, Kevin Fox (Julie) and Wesley Callicott (Soshy); and step-grandchildren, Connor (Bailey), Langston, Penelope, Ardyn, Rosey, and Woody.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his first wife of 30 years, Michelle Hendrix Morrell, who passed away in November of 2007; sister, Mary Haygood, and infant brother, Robert Hanly Morrell Jr.

A visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM on Saturday, February 7, 2026, followed by a Memorial Service at 3:00 PM at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, officiated by Reverend David Rodrick. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Attendees are encouraged to wear USC Gamecock garnet and black or USC Upstate green, black, and white in Bob's honor.
