Richard James Wright

Richard James Wright, 81, of Spartanburg, South Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Spartanburg Medical Center.

Born November 16, 1944, in Grove City, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Harry Lee Wright, Jr. and Nancy Nicholls Wright.

Richard proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was also a member of the American Legion. Richard was a faithful member of New Life Baptist Fellowship.

A hardworking entrepreneur and respected businessman, Richard founded Camco Machining in 1983 and devoted more than four decades to building the company and serving his customers.

Richard enjoyed woodworking, bird watching, and fishing. Above all, he cherished his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He also had a special place in his heart for animals, particularly his beloved dog, Suzy, and never met an animal he didn't love.

In addition to his wife of 44 years, Joyce McDowell Wright, he is survived by his daughters, Laurie Wright Baker (Randy), and
Leslie Jamison (Jay); stepdaughter, Michelle Wyatt (Mike); brothers, David G. Wright (Noreen), and Edward Wright; his grandchildren, James Lee Baker (Michelle), Jessica Baker, Simon Wyatt, Lucas Wyatt; and sisters-in-law, Frances Wright, and Dorothy Perkins (Russ).

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Stevenson; and brothers, William Wright, and Harry Lee Wright III.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Eggers Funeral Home of Boiling Springs. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, officiated by Rev. Scott Miller. Interment will follow at Good Shepherd Memorial Park. Military honors will be rendered by the United States Army in recognition of Mr. Wright's faithful service to his country.

Pallbearers will be Randy Baker, Scott Moon, James Baker, Tim Padgett, Mike Wyatt, Drew Padgett, Rick Tate, and Kevin Collins. Honorary pallbearers will be Jay Jamison, Simon Wyatt, Lucas Wyatt, and the valued employees of Camco Machining.
