Richard M. "Dicky" Turner

Richard M. "Dicky" Turner, a devoted father, grandfather, musician, and lifelong car enthusiast, passed away March 18th, 2025 at the age of 81. Born to the late Richard George Turner and Lena Genoble Turner, he was raised in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Dicky often spoke of his wonderful childhood and the special bond he shared with his sisters, Evelyn, Edith, and Jeri, who pampered him throughout his life. He also shared a cherished connection with his older sisters, MaDoel and Betty, who always looked out for him with love and admiration.

From an early age, Dicky discovered his passion for hot rods, swapping out engines by the time he was 16. His love for cars led him to a career as a service technician at Gombert Volkswagen in his early 20s before transitioning into automotive sales, where he became known for his honesty and integrity. He later co-owned The Car Store with his good friend Jim Hunsinger. Among all the cars he owned and worked on, his favorite was the Corvette—he had many throughout his lifetime and never lost his enthusiasm for them.

Beyond his love for cars, Dicky had an incredible musical talent. He could play nearly any instrument he picked up but was especially fond of the guitar and bass. He spent many joyful years playing with his band, Wooden Apple. His musical tastes reflected his Southern roots, with ZZ Top and The Marshall Tucker Band being among his favorites.

Dicky's faith was a guiding force in his life. He was baptized at a young age and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Spartanburg. More than anything, he cherished time with his family. He and his sons, Todd and Rich, had an unbreakable bond, sharing lunch together almost every day with close friends. He had a special relationship with his grandchildren—TJ, Christi, and Hayden—as well as his daughter-in-law, Shanon. When his great-granddaughter, Magnolia Jane, was born, his heart was fuller than ever.

Dicky was deeply devoted to his entire family, maintaining close relationships with his friends, cousins, nieces, and nephews, who all held a special place in his heart.

Dicky's kind heart, sharp wit, and love for family and friends will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, March 21, 2025, in The Chapel of Eggers Funeral Home of Boiling Springs, South Carolina with Rev. Danny Garrett and Rev. Kris Showen officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Friday from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM.

Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
