Raymond J.D. Riley

Raymond J.D. Riley, Sr., age 86, went home to be with the Lord, on April 1, 2025, in Duncan, South Carolina. Born on November 14, 1938, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, to his parents, Robert Lee Riley and Nettie Crowder Riley. He lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service to others.

Raymond was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of forty years, Rachel Weathers Riley. Together they shared countless cherished memories, especially their many trips to the Smokey Mountains and Pigeon Forge, places that held a special place in their hearts. He found great joy in traveling with Rachel and spending time with their cat, "Baby Girl," whose companionship brought him comfort and laughter.

A proud father and grandfather, Raymond is lovingly remembered by his son Jared Riley (Lisa) of Georgia and daughter Debra Crowe of Spartanburg; sisters, Dorothy Riley Nelson (Harold) and Sue Riley. He was blessed with five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren who brought immense pride and happiness into his life. Though he experienced the sorrow of losing two sons, Raymond "Henry" Riley and "Darryll" Edward Riley, his enduring love for all his children remained steadfast throughout his life.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Willard Riley, Robert Riley, Jr., James Riley, Leroy Riley and Walter Riley and one sister, Ruby Riley Murth. Despite these losses, he carried forward the values instilled by his family: strength, humor, and unwavering faith.

A man deeply committed to his spiritual life, Raymond was a dedicated member of Fairforest Church of God. His involvement extended far beyond attendance; he served as a Sunday school teacher, President of the Men's Club, and participated actively as a prison team worker. His faith guided every aspect of his life and inspired those around him.

Known for his warm sense of humor and ability to make people laugh, Raymond had a gift for lifting spirits wherever he went. He valued time spent with family and friends above all else and was always ready with a story or a smile that brightened the room.

Raymond's legacy is one of devotion to God, to his family, and to living each day with purpose. He often expressed hope that he would see all his loved ones again in Heaven, a reflection of the deep faith that sustained him throughout his journey.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 5, 2025, in the Chapel of Eggers Funeral Home, Boiling Springs, with Rev. Kris Kilgore and Rev. John Petty III officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

A private interment will be held at a later date.
