Paulette Anne Miley Carey

Paulette Anne Miley Carey 02/29/1944 – 12/19/2023

Paulette passed peacefully the evening of December 19th. She leaves behind her husband
of 10 years, Richard Carey, and 7 nieces and nephews.
The couple met at the Palmetto Statesman Barbershop Chorus practice. Both loved
barbershop choir harmony singing. She is originally from Washington, D.C. For several
years she was the private secretary to the President of National Geographic. She
attended New York State University, where she earned a B.S. in Business in 1984. She
went on to found a company that contracted with the Federal Government to perform
soil samples throughout the U.S.
She moved to the Florida Keys to Marathon in Big Pine Key. While there, she attended
Key West Community College and earned her realtors license. She also won a bottle of
Don Perignon when a friend made a bet that she couldn't keep a GPA of 5.0. She did and
graduated with a GPA of 5.0. She went on to found several businesses, among those
were Island Borders, Inc., a pet shop, and Sun and Surf Realty, Inc.
Up until her passing, she was a copy editor, proofreader, and editor for several large and
well-known publishing houses; O'Reilly & Assoc, Inc.; Technical Publishing, Inc.; The
Corolis Group; Ventura Communications Group; Macmillan Publishing and many
others. Many famous authors had their work corrected by Paulette.
