Miriam Elizabeth Queen Burgess

Miriam Elizabeth Queen Burgess, 81, of Spartanburg, SC, passed away Friday, August 9, 2024.

Miriam cherished her family and will be missed by all. She had a big, kind heart and loved everyone. She was an excellent seamstress and could make anything.

Born in Gaffney, SC, she was a daughter of the late Albert George Queen and Virginia Raines Queen. Miriam was 1961 graduate of Gaffney High School. She was a member of Valley Falls First Baptist Church and loved singing in the choir. Miriam worked for many years as a lab technician at Mrs. Smith's Bakeries. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph H. Burgess; sister, Ruby Ammons; two brothers, Floyd Queen and Walter Queen; son-in-law, Michael Blackwood, Jr.; grandson, Bryson Burgess; and an infant son.

Miriam is survived by her two daughters, Teresa H. Spires (J.T.) and Tammie H. Blackwood; two step-sons, Randy Burgess (Sharon) and Dale Burgess (Stephanie); three sisters, Hazel Peay, Sandra Mason and Betty Maynor (Larry); six grandchildren, Shaina Ray (Jarrod), Jeff Burgess, Carrie Pennington, Will Spires (Samruddhi), Jenni Lail (Ashton) and Tricia Blackwood; and four great-grandchildren, Emerson Ray, Owen Ray, Levi Ray and Evaleigh Lail.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 in the Chapel of Eggers Funeral Home of Boiling Springs with the Rev. Gary Adkins officiating. Burial will follow at Boiling Springs Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00am until 11:00am prior to the service.

The family will be at their respective homes.
