Matthew Jordan Tanner

Matthew Jordan Tanner, 37, of Lyman, SC, passed away Monday, September 11, 2023.

Born in Spartanburg, SC, he was a son of Earl Keith Tanner and Brenda Swanson Tanner. Matthew was a graduate from Broome High School and attended Spartanburg Technical College and Marshall University. He later graduated from South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. Matthew proudly served in the US Army National Guard. He was extremely witty, a huge animal lover, and a fan of the Braves and Tarheels. Matthew was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Marvin and Doris Tanner; maternal grandparents, Kermit and Betty Swanson; and an aunt, Pamela Goforth.

Left to cherish Matthew's memory with his parents is his brother, Eric Tanner (Rhebecca); three aunts, Kelli Gaw (James), Debbie Ellis (Paul), and Nancy Tanner; uncle, Kirby Tanner (Kelly); godmother, Anne Cooper; and numerous cousins and second cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Green Point Baptist Church with Dr. David Lancaster officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you bring a bag of dog or cat food to the service, which will later be donated to a local shelter.

The family will be at Matthew's parents home.
