Mary Ellen Pogue

Our mom, Mary Ellen Painter Pogue, left us on March 6, 2025 for Heaven. She was born in Spartanburg, SC on January 30, 1938 to Creighton and Bertha Painter.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two older brothers. She farmed alongside her husband, Herbert Pogue, until his death in 2009. In 2020 she said "goodbye for now" to her grandson, Colby Arrowood, and son-in-law, Rick Street.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Jane and Jeff Arrowood, Johnny and Lisa Pogue, and Jackie Street; and a sister, Betty Peeler.

She was lovingly known as "Mamaw" to 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild on the way.

She also leaves behind her faithful cat, Petey. Petey was always nearby when she read, put puzzles together, or talked on the phone.

Our mom taught us that family is important, pull your socks up and go on when things get tough, and hard work keeps you from being bored.

In lieu of food or flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 374 Hudlow Rd., Forest City, NC 28043.

A graveside service will be announced at a later date.
