Martha Lea Edwards

Martha Lea Edwards, age 79, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Born on December 20, 1945, in her Granny's home in Candler, NC, Martha's arrival was as unique as her spirit — the delivering physician arrived by horse-drawn sleigh due to a heavy snowfall, a story that became local legend.

In 1964, Martha married the love of her life, Bruce Edwards. Together they raised two children and shared 60 years of love, laughter, and family adventures. Martha found great joy in supporting her children's endeavors and was an enthusiastic participant in the many camping, boating, and hunting trips the family enjoyed together over the years.

Martha was the embodiment of warmth and kindness. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she never met a stranger. Her natural ability to make lifelong friends left a lasting impact on everyone she met — many of whom became like family.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Bruce Edwards; daughter, Robin Edwards of Asheville, NC; son, Jeff Edwards and his wife Dawn of Bostic, NC; and five cherished grandchildren: Justin, Graysen, Hayes, Tyler, and Devyn.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life at 3:00 PM on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Northbrook Baptist Church, 1881 Boiling Springs Road, Spartanburg, SC 29316, with Rev. Benny Green officiating. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Northbrook Baptist Church Missions Fund, 1881 Boiling Springs Road, Spartanburg, SC 29316.

Martha's light lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
