Marlin Hines

Marlin Hines, 91, a former resident of Gaffney and Duncan, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home in Chester, South Carolina on Thursday, February 13, 2025.

Born in Rutherford County on November 10, 1933, Marlin was the son of the late Allison and Reola Hines. A graduate of Harris High School, Class of 1952, he dedicated his career to the textile industry and was a devoted member of Joy Lutheran Church in Moore, South Carolina. He also proudly served in the United States Army.

Marlin was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Irene Bryant Hines; his son, Michael Lee Hines; his brothers, Gene Hines, Jack Hines, and Merlin Hines; and his sister, Ebba Mays.

He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Hines Martin, and son-in-law, Alan, of Chester, SC; his daughter-in-law, Kathy Hines Kennedy, and Reid Kennedy, of Wellford, SC; and his adored grandchildren: Derrick Hines and wife, Rebecca, of Chapin, SC; Christopher Hines and wife, Jennie, of Summerville, SC; Elizabeth Clack and husband, Kody, of Chester, SC; and Joseph Martin and his loving partner, Deanna Mobley, both of Chester, SC.

Marlin is also survived by his brothers, Miles Hines and wife, Nancy, and Randy Hines and wife, Susan; his sisters, Carolyn Kinney and husband, Albert, and Darlene Caldwell and husband, Tommy.

He is also survived by his great grandchildren whom he cherished: Rivers Matthews, Grayson Clack, Harper Hines, Molly Hines, Henry Hines, Duffy Hines, Bash Hines, and Poe Hines.

Marlin will be remembered for his kindness, faith, and devotion to his family. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00PM on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at Eggers Funeral Home of Chesnee, with the Pastor Michael Shackelford officiating. Randy Hines and Derrick Hines will speak on behalf of the family, and Mrs. Patricia Williams will serve as soloist and pianist. Burial will follow at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:00PM until 2:00PM, one hour prior to the service at Eggers Funeral Home.
