Margaret Rebecca Smith

Margaret Rebecca Smith, age 97, of Spartanburg, South Carolina, passed away on Monday, August 11, 2025.

Mrs. Smith was born on September 24, 1927, in York, South Carolina, a daughter of the late Hattie Milling George and Moroni J. George. She was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Abner Baptist Church. Mrs. Smith worked for many years as a seamstress and enjoyed sewing. She also spent much time throughout her life crafting and reading. When she passed, she held the distinction of being the  second-oldest living member of the Catawba Indian Nation.

Left to cherish her memory are daughter, Betty S. Blackwood (John); son, Robert E. Smith (Pam); grandchildren, Kim Hall (Marty), Robert E. Smith, Jr., Sam Owens III (Diann), and Chad Owens (Christy); great-grandchildren, Danniece Brewer, Kathryn Wofford, Robert E. Smith III, Anderson Owens, Brittany Lee (Austin), Samuel Owens IV, and Megan Owens (Kale); great-great grandchildren, Harper Wofford, Finnleigh Wofford, Wade Wofford, and Kenna Thompson; and a son-in-law, Sam Owens.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was predeceased by her husband, Mr. John Earl Smith; a daughter, Lula Owens; and eight siblings; Artie Canty, Bertha Harris, Reina Caponis, Leola Brown, Missouri Brindle, Moroni T George, Etta Teaster, and Claude George.

A small service will be held with close family to celebrate her life at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 15, 2925, at Eggers Funeral Home of Boiling Springs with Rev. Tommy Sparks officiating.

Interment will follow at Good Shepherd Memorial Park.
