Louis Sutera

Louis Sutera, age 93, went to Heaven unexpectedly on April 16, 2026, from his home in Inman, South Carolina. A service will be held in his honor at Boiling Springs First Baptist Church at 3600 Boiling Springs Road, Boiling Springs, SC 29316 on Monday, April 27, 2026. Calling hours for the family will begin at 11:30am and for the public at 12:00pm preceding the service at 1:00pm and burial to immediately follow in the church cemetery. Also, a reception for friends and family who wish to gather will take place following the burial in the church reception hall.

Louis was born April 27, 1932, in Brooklyn, New York, the second child of the late Alphonse and Jeanne Sutera. Louis grew up in Elizabeth and Union, New Jersey. He personally received Christ as his Lord and Savior at the age of eight at his mother's knee. At the age of fourteen, he answered God's call to enter the ministry. He then attended Bob Jones Academy and University in Greenville, South Carolina where he began studying for the ministry when he was a senior in the Academy.

After graduating from university in 1953, Louis began interdenominational evangelistic and revival-oriented ministries sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ across the United States, Canada, and other countries with his twin brother, Ralph. Together, for over 60 years, they made up one of the few twin-brother combinations in itinerant ministries known as the "Sutera Twins".

Louis met his wife, Henrietta, in Nyack, New York on July 4, 1965, and they were married July 16, 1966. They would have been celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary this summer. Through the years, they made residences in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Mansfield, Ohio, and Inman, South Carolina.

Louis' wife, Henrietta, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 20, 2026. They have been members of Boiling Springs First Baptist Church since 2005. Louis is survived by his four children, Rebecca (Dale) Briggs, Jeanna (Michael) Smith, Pamela (Shaun) Christy, Jonathan (Megan) Sutera; 14 grandchildren and their spouses and 17 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his twin brother Ralph Sutera, and sisters, Rosemarie Dreyer Patti and Jeanette Laury, as well as multiple nieces and nephews.

Of specific interest, was their direct involvement in the spiritual awakening that took place in the early 1970's in Western Canada. This gave birth to the Canadian Revival Fellowship in Regina, Saskatchewan that continues to function to this day. Other team ministries became involved as the influence spread, as well as revival materials created that have gone around the world. Books have been written, religious periodicals and articles carried stories describing the unusual events that took place, profoundly affecting people, families, and churches for years to come. As of late, Louis loved his Sunday School class, prayer group, and serving in the church. He was a part of the Spartanburg County Network, attending their monthly pastor luncheons and part of their Ordination Committee. On the National Day of Prayer in 2018, he was honored with "The Beacon of Prayer Award" which read, "for helping keep Prayer and Revival a constant focus among pastors and churches here in Spartanburg and beyond, celebrating his faithful commitment to these Kingdom efforts." His life verse was Matthew 5:16, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in Heaven" and his life mission was to serve God, his family and others. His words from the pulpit and to individuals along the way will be remembered, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
