Lawrence N. Blanton

Lawrence N. Blanton, age 72 of Cliffside, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 1, 2026. He was born January 3, 1954 in Cleveland County, NC to the late Robert Blanton and the late Vennie Bingham Blanton.

Lawrence was a graduate of Crest High School and after high school spent about 10 years as a Professional Wrestler in a regional independent circuit winning 4 heavyweight championships. He worked for Cone Mills Corporation in Cliffside, NC for twenty five years and later retired from the town of Forest City Street Dept. after twelve years of service. Lawrence had a passion for horses including riding and taking care of his own horses. He also loved to go camping and spend time with family and friends. Lawrence loved all things western especially John Wayne and his movies. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church of Mooresboro, NC and was currently serving as a deacon. Lawrence loved to talk to people and everyone he ever met and talked to was impacted in the best way from his stories, advise, friendship and a simple love of life. Lawrence will be fondly remembered by friends and family for being the kind of person that would do anything to help anyone.

Lawrence is survived by his wife of fifty years Rhonda Nanney Blanton, his daughter Amy Blanton Parker (Chris), two sisters; Julie Dover (William) and Sharon Walker (Larry), bonus son Jamie Bostic (Christie), three bonus grandchildren; Dottie, John and Daisy and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Lawrence is preceded in death by one grandson Bo Biddy, four brothers and three sisters.

The family will receive friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Monday, October 5, 2026 at Eggers Funeral Home of Cliffside, NC. The funeral service will be at 2:00pm on Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at Trinity Baptist Church of Mooresboro, NC with Reverend Toby Leroy officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make memorial donations to the Trinity Baptist Church Children’s Christmas Fund. This yearly charity was near and dear to Lawrence’s heart. Eggers Funeral Home of Cliffside, NC is serving the family.
