Joseph "Joe" Herman Scherer

Joseph Herman Scherer, 76, of Boiling Springs, SC, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2024.

He was born on August 6th, 1947 in Portsmouth, OH, to the late John and Ruth Seyfried Scherer. In Joe's earlier years, he was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and attended Notre Dame High School. In his later years, he was a member of Boiling Springs First Baptist Church, and the Truth Seekers Sunday School Class. He was a Staff Sargeant in the Air Force and was a Vietnam veteran. Joe had a servant's heart. He delivered for Mobile Meals and was in the Lion's Club. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 200 where he served as adjutant and was in the Honor Guard. At church, he was a door greeter, served as Co-President of the Joy Group and worked with Migrant Missions. Joe went on numerous mission trips to Nova Scotia, Virginia, Georgia, and Kentucky. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Father Gary, James, Roger, David, and Mark; and his sister, Sandra.

Joe is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carol Scherer; daughter, Christi Wagner (Matt); his siblings, Carol Peckham, Donna Pickelheimer, Ray Scherer, Sue Burnside, Diane Lodwick (Greg), Danny Scherer (Debbie), Dean Scherer (Gail), Rick Scherer, Lynne Webb (Curt), Ann Bartlett; grandson, Eli; granddaughter, Katie; brother-in-law, Cecil Wilkie (Judy), sisters-n-law, Sandra Wilkie, Tonya Wilkie; aunt, Pat Gordon; and many special nieces and nephews.

A funeral service to celebrate Joe's life will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at Boiling Springs First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Hank Williams and Rev. Ronnie Cox officiating. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1:30 to 3:00pm.
