Johnny Carlton Elder

Johnny Carlton Elder, a man whose heart overflowed with kindness and compassion, went to be with the Lord on October 23, 2024, in Greenville, South Carolina, at the age of 63.
Born on April 19, 1961, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Johnny's life was a testament to the power of kindness and empathy. He had an incredible gift for reaching out to others with warmth and open arms. Whether you knew him for a lifetime or met him for just a moment, Johnny had a way of making you feel seen and valued. His presence lit up every room he entered, bringing joy and laughter wherever he went.
Johnny's greatest joy was in lifting others up. He had a knack for knowing just when someone needed a word of encouragement or a listening ear. His unwavering faith guided him through life's challenges, allowing him to be a source of strength and inspiration to those around him.
Johnny's family was his world. He was the loving husband to his wife of 30 years, April Dawn Elder, and the proud father of Megan Brooke-Shea Elder and Johnny Brock Elder, who inherited his big heart and bright spirit. His love extended beyond his human family, too; he loved animals and left behind 3 fur babies who will miss him dearly.
In his spare time, Johnny had a love for traveling. He and April went on countless adventures, exploring the state together, with Johnny always quick to crack a joke or make a friend out of a stranger along the way. His humor was legendary, filled with corny "dad jokes" that he proudly recycled, no matter how many eye rolls they earned. Beyond these he also loved fishing even if he never caught a thing, just for the joy of being outside and with family. He also could be found almost any evening watching an animal documentary typically on lions or tigers.
Johnny's faith was the foundation of his life. He trusted God through every twist and turn, living each day with gratitude and grace. Johnny's legacy of laughter, compassion, and faith lives on through those who loved him. He leaves behind a world brighter and kinder for having been in it. While we will miss his infectious smile and gentle presence, we celebrate a life lived fully and joyfully.
Johnny is survived by his wife, April Dawn Elder, daughter, Megan Brooke-Shea Elder (Jonathan), son, Johnny Brock Elder; brothers, Patrick Elder (Pat), Steve Elder (Deborah), Leslie Elder (Terrie), Robert Elder (Gail), Jackie Elder (Pam), David Elder (Wanda); one sister, Mary Elder Hawkins.
He was predeceased in death by his mother, Alice Arcenia Revels Henderson and stepfather, Albert Delane Henderson; and one son, John Earl Elder.
