Joe Dean Thrift

Joe Dean Thrift, age 84, of Forest City, NC, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 3, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family.

Joe was born on September 27, 1940, in Rutherford County, NC, to L.R. Thrift and Eva W. Radford. He graduated from Cliffside School in 1958 and went on to dedicate 47 years of loyal service to Cone Mills of Cliffside, NC, where he was honored upon his retirement in 2005.

Joe shared many years of marriage with his first wife, Louise Thrift, with whom he had two children, Alan Thrift and Denise Thrift. Later, he married Nancy Thrift, who lovingly and loyally remained by his side until his passing.

Joe was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise Thrift, and his son, Alan Thrift.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Thrift; daughter, Denise Humphries; stepdaughter, Alissa McNabb; granddaughters, Eva and Avery Humphries; step-granddaughter, Nikki Toineeta; and step-great-granddaughters, Aria Toineeta and Makaula Lambert.

Joe will be remembered for his incredible work ethic, sharp wit, and unwavering love for his family and friends. He enjoyed playing solitaire, watching old westerns, listening to '50s music, following NASCAR racing, and riding around in his Corvette. A faithful member of Cliffside Baptist Church, he found joy in serving alongside his church community as a deacon, on the building and grounds committee, and with the kitchen committee.

The receiving of friends will take place at Cliffside Baptist Church at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. in the sanctuary with Reverend Mike Elgin officiating. A graveside service at Cleveland Memorial Park will follow the memorial service. All who knew and loved Joe are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.
