Joan R Blackwell

Joan Russell Blackwell, 89, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Blackwell was born on January 5, 1936, in Saluda, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Lawrence Russell, Sr. and Agnes Irene Russell. Joan was blessed with sixty-nine wonderful years of marriage to her husband, Woodrow Blackwell. Joan lived a life filled with love, faith, and devotion to her family. She had a deep love for her horses and other pets, working in her flower garden, and traveling with her husband. Joan's greatest blessing was the large and loving family she nurtured. Mrs. Blackwell leaves behind a Godly heritage that will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Joan is survived by her husband, Woodrow Blackwell; her son, Daniel Blackwell and his wife, Mitzi, of Boiling Springs, SC; daughter, Sandra Nelson and her husband, Brad, of Inman; grandchildren, Beau Blackwell and his wife, Jessica, of Travelers Rest, Blair Glover and her husband, Brandon of New Prospect, SC, Brittany Hyder and her husband, Tim, of Winston Salem, NC and step-grandson Tyler Nelson and his wife Brittany, of Travelers Rest. Joan was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Orin Blackwell, Willow Blackwell, Gus Blackwell, Silas Blackwell, Bryson Glover, Brodie Glover, Brynn Glover, Bree Glover, Savannah Nelson, and Abby Nelson. She is also survived by sisters; Rebecca Hardin and Nancy Bayne and her husband, Norman; as well as sister-in-law, Suzanne Russell. In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by a granddaughter, Melina Ashlee Blackwell; son-in-law, Brett McKee; sister, Annie Howard; and brother, Rev. Lawrence Russell, Jr.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Eggers Funeral Home of Boiling Springs. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 PM at Good Shepherd Memorial Park in Boiling Springs, South Carolina with Pastor Clayton Houchins officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan's name to Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29303, or SHS Hospice House, PO Box 2624, Spartanburg, SC 29304.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of 4 Tower at Spartanburg Medical Center and the staff at SHS Hospice Home.
