James Reid Smart

Mr. James "Jim" Reid Smart, 80, of Chesnee, South Carolina passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, August 2, 2023. He was born in Forest City, North Carolina on August 17, 1942 to the late Ernest Dalton Smart and Mary Rebecca Deviney Smart.

Mr. Smart attended Gardner Webb University and was a faithful member of Boiling Springs First Baptist Church. He was a Deacon, a Gideon, and was also involved with the Lions Club. Jim enjoyed sports, gardening, tending to his rose bushes, and his butterfly garden. He was a loving husband and father, as well as a beloved "PawPaw" to his grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jacqueline "Jackie" Edgerton Smart; daughter, Lauren Tracey Duty; son, James Anthony "Tony" Smart (Kelly); sister, Mary Elizabeth Henson; brother, William "Bill" H. Smart (Ann); grandchildren, James "Jay" Robert Smart (Cody Patterson), Morgan Elizabeth Duty, Amanda "Amy" Lynn Smart, Regan Victoria Duty, and Abigail "Abby" Faith Smart; and a bonus grandson, Tim Stacey.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Janice Kay Oliver; and brothers, Dalton L. Smart and Ernest Ray Smart.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM on Friday, August 4, 2023 at Boiling Springs First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Hank Williams officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service, from 1:00PM until 2:00PM. Burial will follow at Springhill Memorial Gardens in Chesnee, South Carolina.
