James L. Edwards, 89, resident of Summit Hills Nursing Home, went home to his Heavenly Father on Sunday, October 11, 2015. Born on November 4, 1925 in the Saxon community in Spartanburg, he was the eldest son of James B. and Ethel Edwards. He was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and was a WWII veteran having served his Country in the US Air Force. He worked for over 38 years for Exxon, beginning his career as a local LP Gas driver and then retiring as a District Manager of the LP Gas Sales Division in NC, SC and GA.

He was the devoted husband of Virginia Steele Edwards for 58 years until her passing on October 19, 2006. They have now been reunited in Heaven for all eternity. He was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church and was a Mason out of the Arcadia Lodge.

Survivors include three sons: James R. (Ron) and his fianc Dianne, Larry E. and Mark A. and his wife Sonya. Also surviving is his sister: Corneilla Anderson and her husband Joe. He was blessed with seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers: W. Everett and R. Orlando; two sisters: Cleora and Ernesteen.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307. The Rev. Reid Bowyer will conduct the service and visitation will follow at the graveside.
