James Dean West

Mr. James Dean West, 65, formerly of Rosman, NC, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023. He was born in Jefferson, Kentucky, on July 9, 1957 to James Aubrey West and the late Alma Ann Brooks West.

Dean spent the last 30 years of his life living and working in Brevard, North Carolina and the surrounding areas. He managed Kmart throughout the country and was a friend and mentor to all that worked with him. Dean was also proud to be an auctioneer and to have been inducted as a Kentucky Colonel.  He was well-known for his strong sense of fellowship and charitable service to his community. Most notably, Dean enjoyed dressing as Santa Claus for local Christmas celebrations, and was proud to serve as pastor at Dunn's Rock Baptist Church. Dean was also a compassionate animal lover and rescued numerous pets throughout his life . T his was evident by his love of the family pets ; Rollins, Oliver, Roxie , and Thumbs.  Though he was a friend and a charitable spirit to everyone around him, he maintained his greatest achievement which was being a devoted father to his sons.

In addition to his wife, Penny Barnes West, he is survived by sons, Jamie Davis (Lisa) of LaGrange, Kentucky, Danny West (Jessica) of Philadelphia, PA, Kyle West (Brittany) of Greensboro, NC, Chris Sprouse (Katie) of Boiling Springs, SC, and Noah West of Hendersonville, NC; father, Aubrey West of Kentucky; sister, Dana Smith (Louie) of Louisville, Kentucky; brother, Donald West (Kim) of Louisville, Kentucky; grandchildren, Kinley and Rori Davis, Penelope West, Eli, Naomi e , Tucker, Laney, Ila, and Oliver Sprouse; as well as many other special family members.

Mr. West was predeceased by his mother, Alma Ann Brooks West; and a brother, Terry West.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date .
