James Robert Cole Mattison

Mr. James Robert Cole Mattison, age 26, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, September 22, 2024.

Mr. Mattison was born March 28, 1998, in Spartanburg, SC, a son of Georgette Nicole Neeley and the late James Robert Mattison Jr. He was a graduate of Boiling Springs High School and was employed by FedEx Ground. Cole was an avid dirt bike racer and traveled the country racing. In the early years of his racing career, he and his Papa Robby were inseparable and spent most weekends racing. He was a role model for young guys starting out and always had time to talk with them or even play in the dirt with their toy motorcycles. Cole enjoyed fishing for relaxation and running or biking after a stressful day. He also loved bonfires and being with his friends. He was fun loving and enjoyed life. At home, Cole was always into mischief and included his sibling in the "fun". Cole loved the beach and the lake and loved to kayak down the river with a rod in hand. Cole's love for music was amazing, especially country, and he always had a speaker by his side. He loved shopping, which he inherited from his mother and grandma, especially for others. On a shopping trip to The Barnyard with his Mom after his father passed away, he bought something on each aisle mostly for others. He would always pop in with a gift for no reason. Cole was recently baptized in April and loved the Lord. Even after losing his father, he never let a smile leave his face despite it being a tremendous loss for him. The common saying was everybody knows Cole by his "heart of gold". No one had a bigger heart. He tried hard to make sure everyone was okay and happy and was so full of love. Cole was a one of a kind, selfless, and wanted to help all but himself. He loved everyone.

Surviving in addition to his mother, Nicole Neeley (Rusty Layton); are sister, Neeley Mattison; brother, Joseph "JoJo" Mattison; son, Hayden James and his mother, Victoria "Tori" Libby; grandparents, Robert and Eunice Neeley, and Susan Mattison; uncle, Andy Mattison and wife Crystal, and their children, Piper and Cruz Mattison; aunt, Julie Mattison, and her children, Malachi Brooks, and Zane and Warren Bishop; many other family members who loved him dearly; and his racing family. In addition to his father, Cole was predeceased by grandfather, Jimmy Mattison.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Monday, September 30, 2024, in the Chapel of Eggers Funeral Home of Boiling Springs with Chaplin Matthew Scruggs and Mr. Seth Caldwell officiating.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM Monday at the funeral home following the memorial service.
