Hilda Vondilla Hamrick Whisnant

Hilda Vondilla Hamrick Whisnant, age 99 of Ellenboro, NC, went to her heavenly home on Friday, August 29, 2025. A native of Rutherford County and the widow to the late Reverend Perry Elijah Whisnant. She was the daughter to the late Arbuth L Hamrick and the late Thelma Austin Hamrick. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Ellenboro, NC.

Hilda graduated from Ellenboro School where she was a member of the girls basketball team. She was a preachers wife, homemaker and an inspector for the USDA. She managed the Needmore Stores for many years for her brother.

Hilda's legacy is her family that held a line of five generations of all girls. She not only raised her own kids and grandkids, but she spent twenty plus years as a therapeutic foster parent. Her beliefs and faith helped to mold many people.

Hilda is survived by her son Perry Lee Whisnant, her daughter Teresa Wood, grandchildren; Samantha Leia Whisnant and Shellica Romney, great grandchildren; Sabrina Hardin, Logan Romney and Nessa Romney, great great granddaughter Maylyn Vondilla Lovelace.

In addition to her husband and parents, Hilda was preceded in death by her daughter Bonita Williams and her husband Bruce, her sisters; Robena Baldwin and her husband Clyde, Jelma Daves and her husband Jack, her brothers; Vitto and his wife Betty, Durwood and his wife Mary and Reece.

The family will receive friends at Eggers Funeral Home of Cliffside, NC on Thursday, September 4, 2025 form 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The funeral service will be 3:00pm Friday, September 5, 2025 at Bethel Baptist Church in Ellenboro, NC with Reverend Stephen Bright and Reverend David Easler officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Eggers Funeral Home of Cliffside, NC is serving the family.
