Gennie Ruth Smith

Gennie Ruth Smith, age 79, of Boiling Springs, South Carolina, passed away peacefully with her two sons and family by her side on Sunday, November 3, 2024, joining her beloved husband, Charles Franklin Smith, in the presence of the Lord.

Born on June 9, 1945, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Gennie was the daughter of the late Oliver Eugene Jackson and Alice Elizabeth Million Jackson. A devoted member of Green Point Baptist Church, Gennie was known for her warmth and kindness. She was a faithful wife, dedicated mother, and loving grandmother who placed God and family above all else, and her presence was a constant source of love and encouragement.

Gennie had a fun-loving spirit and brought joy to those around her. An avid fan of the South Carolina Gamecocks, she loved cheering on her team and spending time with friends and family. She especially delighted in supporting her grandson Ben in clay shooting, shag dance competitions, and anything he showed interest in, always as his proudest supporter. Gennie also took immense pride in her granddaughter Brittney's accomplishments, celebrating her journey to becoming a lawyer with joy.

Professionally, Gennie was equally devoted, working for many years as an Operations and Safety Director in the truck transportation industry. She took great pride in her work, making a meaningful impact on the many she worked with over the years.

Gennie's legacy is lovingly remembered by her sons, Charles Keith Smith and David Allen Smith (Lindsey McAbee); her granddaughter, Brittney Hazel; and her grandson, Benjamin Smith. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Linda Seay Jackson; her husband's sister and brother-in-law, Nell and Doug O'Shields; and her lifelong friends Ann Pruitt Sweckerand Gail Nelmes (also her beloved aunt), whose friendships were among her greatest treasures. In addition to her husband, Gennie was preceded in death by her brother, Dwight Eugene Jackson.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Green Point Baptist Church, officiated by Reverend Doctor David Lancaster. Interment will follow at Springhill Memorial Gardens.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Bryan Turner, Todd Nelmes, Bill Altman, Michael Jackson, Brandon McKillop, Jim Warner, Dana Sisk, and Cameron Parsons.  Special music will be provided by Shane Pruitt during the service.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 7, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Eggers Funeral Home of Boiling Springs. Friends and family are also invited to visit together at Gennie's home on Thursday and Friday before andafter the services.
