Frank Mitchell

Mr. Frank Mitchell, age 89, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, October 22, 2023.

Mr. Mitchell was born April 21, 1934, in Spartanburg, SC, a son of the late Frank Mitchell and Janie Holcombe Mitchell. He proudly served in the US Navy and was a member of Una First Freewill Baptist Church. He enjoyed going to church and joking with his friends, and loved writing poems and giving them to family and friends. He was a member of Trough Shoals Lodge #228 of Pacolet, Scottish Rites, a Shriner, a member of the Shriner's Hillbilly Clan; and American Legion Post 28. He was a member of the Pacolet Rescue Squad and won many competitions. He also trained other rescue squad members as well as firemen. Frank was a Fire Commissioner for 23 years and in 2013 he was honored with the Pacolet Fire District Chief's Award by the House of Representatives. He received many other honors and recognitions, including Outstanding Citizen of Woodmen of the World in 1977, Grandfather of the Year in 1999, Citizen of the Year in 2006, and Outstanding Service Award for Fire and Rescue. He coached ladies' softball teams throughout the years and helped with Bikers Against Hunger organization.  He and his son, Bobby, owned Backyard Buddies Restaurant in Pacolet. Above all else, Mr. Mitchell will be remembered for the love he had for his grandchildren. He always loved his great grands coming in and giving him high fives. Mr. Mitchell lived his life by the 23rd Psalm.

He is survived by his daughter, Kay Morgan and husband, Randall; sons, Bobby Guyton and wife, Christy, and Gene Guyton, all of Pacolet, SC; seven grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.

Mr. Mitchell was predeceased by his wife, Geraldine Fleming Mitchell; infant daughter, Trina Gail Mitchell; sisters, Sue, Bobbie Jean, and Tootsie; and brother, Doug.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00pm Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Una First Freewill Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Wesley Campbell, Rev. Kenneth Cash, and Rev. Frank Bryant. Interment will follow with Military Honors and Masonic Rites at Pacolet Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Una Freewill Baptist Church from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Wednesday, October 25, 2023.

Pallbearers will be Dale Campbell, Johnny Mayes, Travis McGinn, Fred Skates, Darrell Padgett, Lonnie Jackson, Benny Tollison, and Warren Tollison.

The family will be at the home of his daughter, Kay, and son-in-law.
