Francis "Butch" Dwight Lolar

Francis"Butch" Dwight Lolar, 78, of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

Born September 3, 1947, in Spartanburg, South Carolina,Francis was the son of the late Francis Phillip Lolar and Mary Kathleen Turner Lolar.

Butch proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He dedicated his career to the textile industry, where he worked in maintenance. Gifted with mechanical ability, he enjoyed taking things apart to see how they worked and putting them back together again. He was happiest when fixing something.

Francis was a member of Mathews United Methodist Church in Greenwood, where he especially enjoyed singing in the church choir. In his spare time, he loved working jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles and word searches, fishing, and listening to country, western, and bluegrass music.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Mary Ellen Meeler Lolar; sisters, Brenda Miller and Betty Ann High; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Donna Meeler; niece, Courtney Livingston, and husband, Aaron; cousin, Alice Macomber, and husband, Jay; his devoted caregiver, Bertha Pope of Greenwood.

A memorial service celebrating Francis's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, in the Chapel of Rice Estate.
