Ella Mae Humphries Colbert

Ella Mae Humphries Colbert, 107, of Chesnee, South Carolina passed away on Monday, September 25, 2023 in her home.

She was born in Chesnee on May 11, 1916 to Bill and Zora Mae Humphries. Ella Mae was a life-long educator who taught at Brown's Chapel School (Chesnee, SC), on base at Fort Leonard Wood (Missouri), and Chesnee Elementary School. She substitute taught in Spartanburg School District Two until the age of 99.  She loved learning and teaching and was instrumental in starting Release Time (School Ministries of Spartanburg County) in Chesnee.

Ella Mae was a member of Friends in Christ United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Zora Mae Humphries; her son, Ray Anthony Colbert; her husband Mines Colbert; and her only sibling, James T. Humphries.

Visitation will be held at Eggers Funeral Home in Chesnee, South Carolina on Wednesday, September 27 from 5:00PM until 7:00PM. A funeral service will be held at Gethsemane Baptist Church in Chesnee on Thursday, September 28 at 3:00PM.
