Dora Harrell

Dora Harrell of Spartanburg passed away peacefully on May 11, 2025; two months shy of her 98th birthday.  Born on July 25, 1927, in Glascock County, Georgia, to Mike and Clara Hinton and the youngest of eight siblings.

Dora was the wife of the late Raymond Harrell. They were married in 1946 and lived in Augusta, Georgia and North Augusta, South Carolina before moving to Spartanburg in 1957 due to a job transfer with the Railroad. They were married fifty-four years. She lived in Converse Heights for sixty-eight years and was the oldest and longest living resident in her neighborhood. After fifty years she celebrated with a party including neighbors from the present and the past.  She felt truly honored to have had so many friends to show up and celebrate with her.  Dora had many cats through the years; she loved them all and missed them dearly when they left before her.

For many years she worked at the voting precinct and met even more neighbors and made new friends.  She was not a morning person, but she always loved working at the voting precinct.  She also enjoyed seeing all the young children in the neighborhood who came by for visits and how they had all grown up.  Working in her yard and garden was her exercise and a way to stay in touch with nature.  She especially loved, and was proud of, growing tomatoes, and sharing them with her friends and neighbors

Dora was a Christian woman with a strong faith.  Raised in the Baptist Church, but after moving to Spartanburg, she and Raymond began following the Presbyterian faith.  Always grateful and feeling blessed by the Lord. She was appreciative of anyone who did anything for her, always remembering to say thank you for your kindness, and it came from her heart.

Dora is survived by her son, Gary P Harrell (Christa) of Seminole, Florida; daughter, Constance Harrell (Ted Mueller) of Spartanburg; four grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to, Pat Sullivan, a dear friend of the family, the staff of Wesley Court Assisted Living and Gentiva Hospice for their care and compassion for the past year.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Spartanburg, South Carolina. The service will begin at 1:00 PM, with Rev. Norman Band officiating.

The family asks that everyone would, please dress comfortably.
