Debbie Mckinney Skipper

Debbie McKinney Skipper, age 73 of Cliffside, NC, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 11, 2023. She was the widow to the late Larry G. Skipper Sr. and the daughter to the late A.C. McKinney and the late Mary Ellen Black McKinney. She was a native of Rutherford County living in Cliffside, NC most of her life. She grew up in the original McKinney Funeral Home where she lived from March of 1953 until she was married in November of 1972. She loved to tell stories about living in the "old funeral home" as she always called it, and about growing up in the town of Cliffside. She attended Gardner Webb University and was a payroll clerk for Cone Mills Haynes Plant for many years. She was a member of Tabernacle Free Will Baptist Church in Forest City, NC for over 40 years and loved her church family dearly. She loved having the "Skipper Family Christmas" at her house every year and always made it so much fun for everyone and even if you weren't blood related you were always welcome. She loved to cross stitch and made beautiful pieces that will be cherished by others for a lifetime. Debbie loved to cook for her family anytime she had the chance or go out and eat and go shopping. She loved doing anything that involved being with the ones she loved. Her grandchildren Benjamen and Audrey were the most precious ones to her heart and she loved to tell others about them every chance she got. I called her Mama, my children called her MawMaw and when the angels carried her away and she stood before her maker we know she heard the words "Well done, good and faithful servant."

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her brother Marty McKinney, sister-in-law Linda Skipper Simeon and many other family members and friends who she missed dearly.

She is survived by her son, Larry G. "Skip" Skipper Jr., her grandchildren Benjamen Atkins and Audrey Ellen Skipper, her brother-in-law Roger Skipper and his wife Martha and a special cousin Cindy Huskey. She is also survived by many extended family members and friends whom she loved dearly.

Thank you to everyone who helped care for her the last couple of weeks, for all the calls, texts, visits and love shown to the family. Also a big thank you to all the funeral service family for everything you have done.

A visitation will be held Sunday, April 16, 2023 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Eggers Funeral Home of Cliffside, NC. Morning church service in her memory will be held at 10:00am on Sunday, April 23, 2023 at the Tabernacle Freewill Baptist Church in Forest City, NC. Everyone is invited to attend.
