Danny Fay Crawley

Danny Fay Crawley, 75, of Columbia, died on Sunday, October 11, 2026. Born in Spartanburg, SC, on June 14, 1951, he was a son of the late Fay Cornellius Crawley and Clara Bell Holt Crawley. Danny grew up in the Camp's Creek community of Boiling Springs, North Carolina. He became a Christian at a young age and remained devoted to his faith throughout his life, attending and serving in Baptist churches wherever he lived. During his younger years, Danny enjoyed playing soccer, hunting, and fishing. He especially loved trout fishing in the river at Chimney Rock.

It was at a basketball game at Crest High School that Danny met the love of his life, Polly Robinson. Their connection was immediate, and exactly one year later, they were married. Throughout their courtship, Danny gave Polly a single long-stemmed red rose on every date, a sweet gesture that reflected the love and devotion he would show her throughout their marriage. Danny was a faithful and loving husband to Polly and a devoted father to their daughter, Dana. He treasured the time spent with his family, especially teaching Dana to fish, whether aboard their boat in the ocean or from the piers at the beach.

Danny also had a special love for animals and enjoyed the companionship of several beloved pets throughout his life. Among them was Breezy, a beautiful red Doberman Pinscher given to him by Polly and Dana. Danny took great pride in showing Breezy at various competitions, where she earned numerous honors, including Best in Show in Tampa, Florida. He also shared a close bond with his sister, Pam, and her family, always enjoying their visits and conversations over the telephone.

Danny began his career in the telecommunications industry when he was hired in North Carolina for a position in Pompano Beach, Florida. The company provided travel and hotel accommodations for Danny and Polly for six weeks while they searched for a place to call home. What began as an exciting adventure turned into 20 wonderful years in Florida, where they enjoyed life near the beach and spent many weekends boating and fishing in the ocean.

Danny's career with BellSouth eventually brought him back to South Carolina, allowing him to be closer to his family. He retired from BellSouth following 30 years of dedicated service but continued working in the telecommunications industry for another 12 years. Throughout his career, Danny's expertise extended well beyond his regular responsibilities. He was frequently called upon to respond to highly technical emergencies for major companies across several states, including those involving 911 systems and extensive fiber-optic networks. Danny took great pride in his work and especially valued the opportunity to share his knowledge and experience by mentoring fellow employees.

Above all, Danny will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his dedication to his work, and the deep love he held for his family. He found happiness in life's simple pleasures, whether spending time on the water, enjoying the companionship of his pets, or sharing a conversation with those he loved.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, David Christopher Crawley.

Survivors include his wife, Polly Jane Robinson Crawley; and his daughter, Dana Michelle Crawley; sister, Pamela Carol Crawley Scruggs (Johnny Irvin Scruggs); niece, Bonnie Elizabeth Scruggs Hollman (Dylan Hollman); and great-nephew, Harrison Scott Hollman.
