Clarence Douglas Hunt

Clarence Douglas Hunt, 85, of Ellenboro, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

Born January 15, 1941, in Gaffney, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Webb McBrayer Hunt, Sr. and Irene Allen Hunt.

After attending Ellenboro High School, Clarence was drafted into the United States Army, where he proudly served three years overseas in Germany. Following his service, he began a long and dedicated career with Celanese Industries in Shelby, where he worked as a mechanic for 38 years.

Clarence was a devoted husband to his wife of 54 years, Brenda Hamrick Hunt, and a proud father to his two sons, Mark and Keith. He was a man known for his steady presence, quiet strength, and deep love for his family.

He will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and strong, unwavering faith. Clarence found joy in the simple things—fishing, hunting, tending his garden, and working on his farm. A mechanic at heart, he could fix just about anything and was always ready to lend a hand, whether it was repairing a grandchild's toy or helping a friend in need.

A lifelong member of Race Path Baptist Church, Clarence faithfully served as Sunday School secretary and was active in the Baptist Men group. He was often found in the kitchen, helping prepare meals for his church family, and he cherished the friendships he built there. He loved gathering with others, sharing laughter, and living out his faith through acts of service.

In addition to his wife, Brenda, he is survived by his son Mark Hunt and wife Mitzi of Cornelius, NC; and his son Keith Hunt and wife Susan of Bostic, NC. He is also survived by his brother Bobby Hunt of Ellenboro and was preceded in death by his brother, Webb Hunt, Jr. of Forest City.

Clarence is further survived by his grandchildren: Emily Trull and husband Nathan, Grayson Hunt, and Abby Hunt (children of Mark and Mitzi); and Rebekah Hunt, James Hunt, David Hunt, and Matthew Hunt (children of Keith and Susan). His great-grandchildren include Harmon Hunt, Sawyer Trull, Corbin Trull, and Hudson Trull.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 PM on April 18, 2026, at Race Path Baptist Church in Ellenboro, with Rev. Randall Cooper officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery and military honors will be given by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. Memorial donations may be made to Race Path Baptist Church at 1171 Race Path Church Rd. Ellenboro, NC 28040. Eggers Funeral Home of Cliffside, NC is serving the family.
