Charles "Charlie" Ragin Thames, Sr.

Mr. Charles Ragin Thames, Sr., age 80, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2025.

Born on December 20, 1944, in Manning, South Carolina, a son of the late Marie Ragin Thames and Rufus Boyd Thames, Sr. He was of the Baptist faith and attended First Baptist North Spartanburg.

Charlie earned an associate's degree from Anderson Junior College, he furthered his education at the University of South Carolina, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in 1967. Charlie served his country as veteran of the United States Air force, during the Vietnam War.

For thirty-two years, Charlie served as a computer programmer and software engineer within the Greenville Health System, which later became the Prisma Health System. His passion for technology and precision was evident in his work, but Charlie's ambitions extended far beyond his professional life. He was also a Certified Public Accountant, owning and operating, Advanced Computer Corporation.

Charlie's life was defined by his Christian faith, for many years, working with youth at his church and spending much of his time on mission trips, sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with those in need. His favorite mission field was Lake Turkana in Northern Kenya, Africa, where he touched countless lives with his message of hope and salvation.

He owned a farm, which initially ran as a tobacco farm before transitioning to hogs. His love for the outdoors was also evident in his hobbies, which included golfing, fishing, painting, photography, shooting sports and most notably, spending time with his beloved grandson, Patrick Ryan Thames.

Charlie is survived by his sons, Charles "Chuck" Thames, Jr. and Michael "Mike" Thames; his brother, Rufus Boyd Thames, Jr.; and his cherished grandson, Patrick.

He was preceded in death by his beloved sister-in-law, Elmairene. Charlie's life was a testament to the power of intelligence and a faith-filled heart.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at First Baptist North Spartanburg with Rev. Dr. Mike Hamlet officiating.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First North Youth Department and Missions Ministry.
