Carolyn Presnell Hughey

Carolyn Presnell Hughey, 86, of Chesnee, South Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

Born on October 14, 1939, in Spartanburg County, she was a daughter of the late Moody Hughey and Lillian Green Hughey. Carolyn was a member of Casey Creek Baptist Church.

For more than twenty-two years, Carolyn proudly owned and operated W.C.'s Bait Shop, where she loved serving her community and making lifelong friendships. She loved her family and treasured the time she spent with them. She enjoyed taking trips to the mountains, shopping, reading, crossword puzzles, and preparing delicious meals for those she loved. Carolyn especially enjoyed feeding and watching hummingbirds and other birds that visited her home. She found great joy in doing for others and will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and her beautiful smile.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Joe Penor; daughters, Deborah McCraw (Joe) of Spartanburg, Joanne Jones of Louisiana, and Sandra "Sandy" Thompson of Chesnee; her son, David Presnell of Chesnee; her stepdaughter, Wanda Taylor of Pauline; her stepsons, William Carey, Jr. of Boiling Springs; Joe Penor, Jr, of Georgia, Peter Penor of Vermont, and Joel Penor of New York; her grandchildren, Ann Pallardy (Mickey) of Texas, Michelle Avalos of Texas, Leroy Spencer of Louisiana, Robbie Spencer of Louisiana, Joe McCraw, Jr. (Jennifer) of Virginia, and Jessica Greene (Bryan), of California; great- grandchildren Clay Shields, Jackson McCraw, Jorgia McCraw, Cassie Keith (Cody), Nathan Pallardy (Zoe), Alejandra Avalos, Katy Avalos, Enrique Avalos, Kristen Moeung (Samath), Chance Greene, and Channing Greene; three great-great-grandchildren, Raelynn Keith, Bentlee Keith, and Kaelynn Moeung.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Presnell, and William Carey "WC" Hughey; sister, Rebecca "Becky" Cantrell; and brothers, Willard Hughey and Oscar Hughey; and a grandson, Derek Shields.
