Carole Scruggs Jones

Carole Fay Scruggs Jones, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and faithful child of God, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the age of 85.

Carole was born on February 22, 1940, in Green Creek, North Carolina. She lived a life marked by devotion to her family, to her faith, and to selfless acts of love that defined her character. A longtime member of Arrowwood Baptist Church, Carole was a woman who feared the Lord and whose life reflected gentle strength and unwavering trust in God.

Carole earned a degree in Early Childhood Education from Spartanburg Methodist College and taught kindergarten at Chesnee First Baptist for a few years.  She also spent many years of her career in banking, where she was known for her strong work ethic, integrity, and dedication — qualities that carried through every aspect of her life.

Carole was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Winfred Dean Jones, whom she loved deeply and missed every day. Their marriage was a testimony of commitment, faith, and love, and her hope of Heaven was anchored in the promise of being reunited with him.

She was an extraordinary supporter of her husband and the heart of her family. Carole found her greatest joy in being a mother and a Nana, pouring herself into the lives of her family with tenderness, wisdom, and prayer.

Carole is survived by her daughter, Angie Rizzo (Chris) and two sons, Gregg Jones (June) and Chris Jones (Jami). She is also survived by her grandchildren Angelee Billau (Mike), CJ Rizzo (Becca), David Jones (Meredith), Heath Jones (Jessica), Tanner Jones, and Paxton Jones; and her great-grandchildren Emerson Jones, Wylder Jones, Carter Lane Jones, Maddux Jones, and Breece Jones.

A celebration of Carole's life and faith will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Arrowwood Baptist Church in Chesnee, South Carolina. Viewing will begin at 12:30 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will take place in the church cemetery immediately following the service.

In lieu of food and flowers, the family requests memorial contributions made payable to the Dean Jones Athletic Scholarship Fund and mailed to First Citizens Bank, 3611 Boiling Springs Road, Boiling Springs, SC 29316.
