Annelle Gregory
"Anne" Burger
Aug 30, 1932 — Oct 3, 2026
Spartanburg, SC
Mrs. Annelle Gregory “Anne” Burger, 94, loving wife of the late John P. Burger, of Spartanburg, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2026, at White Oak at North Grove in Spartanburg.
Anne was born in Monetta, SC, on August 30, 1932, daughter of the late Martin Luther and Mattie Mae Gregory. She was valedictorian of the St. Andrew's Parish High Class of 1950 in Charleston. She spent her working career as a secretary and retired from Kohler Company in Spartanburg. Anne and John resided in Charleston, SC; Atlanta, GA; Lenox, MA; Averill Park, NY; Statesboro, GA; Martinez, GA; and Spartanburg.
Anne was an avid reader and had a special way of showing her love for her family and friends. She enjoyed cooking for those she loved, hosting countless holiday gatherings. Anyone who entered her home could always expect to leave with a full heart and a full stomach, having shared great times, wonderful conversation, delicious food, and, most of all, feeling loved and appreciated. In retirement, Anne also enjoyed traveling with her husband and cherished the many memories they made together, especially their cross country road trip.
Anne was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and Sunrise Civitan, both in Spartanburg. Her church brought her many blessings and friendships throughout the years, and she was especially proud of being a longtime member of the choir and the Circle 2. She also found great joy in serving others through Spartanburg County Meals on Wheels, where she and friends delivered meals and enjoyed spending time visiting and sharing conversation with the elderly throughout the community.
Anne is survived by her four children, Lori (Don) Whiteley of Goose Creek, SC; Lisa (Marty) Foil of Charlotte, NC; Chris (Charis) Burger of Simpsonville; and Michael (Katie) Burger of Simpsonville; her grandchildren, Paul, C.J., Tiffani, Sydney, Avery, Charlie, Chad, Cathryn, Kahlan, and Donovan; and her great-grandchildren, Jackson and Cooper.
In addition to her parents, Anne was preceded in death by her loving husband of more than 67 years, John P. Burger. The two could often be seen hand-in-hand, a testament to the love and devotion they shared throughout their many years together. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Martin Luther and Mattie Mae Gregory.
The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the staff of White Oak at North Grove and Spartanburg Regional Hospice for their care and support.
The family will hold a memorial service at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Spartanburg at a later date.
Eggers Funeral Home of Boiling Springs is serving the Burger family.
