Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and faithful servant of God

Alice Gatewood, 83, of McColl, South Carolina, passed away peacefully in the arms of her Savior on August 5, 2025, surrounded by love and family.

Alice was a devoted Christian woman whose life was defined by grace, kindness, and quiet strength. She was the heart of her family, a constant source of comfort, wisdom and unconditional love. Her faith guided every step she took, and her legacy is one of compassion, resilience, and steadfast devotion to those she held dear.

She was the cherished mother of Kathryn (Joaquim Neves Costa), William, and Hal (Etta); proud grandmother to Ashley, Catarina, and Nathan; and deeply loved great-grandmother to Sean and Noah.

Alice is also survived by her sisters, Beth Stone and Edith Lewis, along with several nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Bessie McCormick, her father, Earl McCormick, and her sister, Edna Cheek.

A private Celebration of Life will be held in her honor.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks memorials to be made in Alice's memory to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, an organization dedicated to research, education, and support for families affected by this devastating disease. www.lbda.org
