Obituary:
Evie Bagwell Poteat, 97, formerly of Mayo, SC, died Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at 5:30 AM at the home of her daughter. Born in Spartanburg County on November 17, 1909, she was the daughter of the late John W.L. and Matilda Lankford Bagwell and the widow of the late Carl Thomas Poteat. Mrs. Poteat was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a housewife and a member of Fairview Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Corrie Thomann and husband Paul of Spartanburg; three sons; Max G. and wife Carolyn , Tony S. and wife Betty all of Spartanburg, and Carl T. and wife Linda of Rock Hill; 10 grandchildren, Chris and Thomas Poteat, Laura Price, Renee Poteat, Karen Holubek, Kim Polhill, Tony S., Jr., Paul Poteat, Beth Blackmon and Susan Corley; and 13 great-grandchildren, Clayton and Lexie Poteat, Caroline and Jacob Holubek, Thomas and Sarah Poteat, Ellie, Corrie Emma and Jack Polhill, John Carlton, Caroline and Sam Price. She was preceded in death by a son, William Harry. Graveside services will be held at Springhill Memorial Gardens in Chesnee on Friday, April 20, 2007 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Barry L. Snead and Mr. Paul Poteat officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.
