Mr. Hartsell Mason Grubbs, 83, of 202 North Carolina Ave. Chesnee, passed away March 5, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. He was the son of the late Doss Grubbs and Pearl Morgan Grubbs, and the widow of the late Ina Belle Frazier Grubbs. Mr. Grubbs served in the United States Navy during WWII, and was also involved in the Cuban Missile Crisis in the early 1960’s. He continued his military career where he retired as a Captain with the United States Army Reserve. He was a graduate of Carson Newman College and Southwestern Seminary in Forth Worth, Texas where he earned a Doctorate in Divinity. He was the former pastor at New Pleasant Baptist Church and was the interim pastor of Whitney Baptist Church where he retired after fifty-one years of service for the Lord.
He is survived by two sons, Earl Mason Grubbs and his wife Susanne of Chesnee, and Robert Eugene Grubbs of Fort Lauderdale, Fl.; two grandchildren, Madison and Morgan Grubbs of Chesnee. In addition to his wife and parents, he was pre-deceased by two brothers and four sisters.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 8, 2010 from 1:30 p.m. till 3:00 p.m. at Orchard Street Baptist Church. Funeral Services will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Allen Dean Blanton officiating.
Interment will follow the service at the Springhill Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Orchard Street Baptist Church Christian Life Center, P.O. Box 219, Mayo, S.C. 29368.
The family will be at the home of Earl and Susanne Grubbs.
