The history of the Eggers Funeral Home lies deep within the enterprising character of its owner, John Eggers. His drive to succeed, to provide the best in customer care, and his commitment to excellence in funeral service began early.

He was only 16, a junior in high school, when he started doing outdoor maintenance and odd jobs for the Hampton Funeral Home in Boone , North Carolina . After proving his worth, the owners brought him indoors to assist with viewings, funerals and office activities.

Following his high school graduation, John entered the Mid America College of Funeral Service, in Louisville, Kentucky. With educational roots stretching back to 1895, this was the perfect place for John to develop, hone, and polish his emerging skills as a funeral director.

After graduation, he returned to work with his early mentors at the Hampton Funeral Home. He remained there several years, continuing to refine his abilities and increase his knowledge in the field. Such learning activities defined his career; his expertise and commitment continued to grow as he worked for Reins-Sturdivant and later the Forest Lawn Mortuary.

It was during his tenure at Reins-Sturdivant that John blossomed under the mentorship of Johnnie Austin and Robert Barnes, two men who were truly influential in his professional and personal development. John credits these men with much of his success today; after all, they willingly, if not joyfully, shared their experience and insight with him.

John's true entrepreneurial character was revealed when took a major leap of faith by resigning his position at Forest Lawn in 1995 to open his own firm. The Eggers Funeral Home in Boiling Springs opened its doors on the second day of the New Year in 1996.

It was during his earlier employment with Reins-Sturdivant that his wife, Betty, joined him in funeral service. She later attended Spartanburg Methodist College and earned her funeral directors license, thereby documenting her strong personal commitment to family-based funeral service. She and John have worked side-by-side, expanding their business in August of 2001 with a second facility in Chesnee. In March of 2006 they added a full-service Crematory at the Chesnee location.

You are assured personal, professional and caring service when you enter either facility. John and Betty each have a life-time of experience, a wealth of knowledge, and the compassionate heart to help you make difficult decisions, and create a memorable funeral or memorial service for your loved one.
